Magnolia Shade Garden
This beautiful home had its back yard damaged during remodeling; the soil was compacted and lifeless, and almost no plants remained. The new landscape design came in on the tail end of the remodeling so happily there was an opportunity for design input regarding the deck on the back of the house. The existing deck had no stairs to the garden and the only access to the back yard was from the front door.
The new design incorporates direct access to the garden from the deck, a new serpentine stone retaining wall with raised planting area, a crushed stone patio and path, stone slab steps and new plantings.
The view to the north capitalizes on the neighbors lush tall coniferous trees and understory plantings. The new garden incorporates mainly shade plants which make for a quiet woodland feeling and calming “outdoor room” experience.
